This update has a lot of facts about events and upcoming meetings and opportunities. I especially want to draw your attention to the upcoming FACS Spring College Assembly, 3:30 on April 11 in the Mahler Room at the Georgia Center. In your units, you’ve been asked to submit questions for the Provost, who will be our guest for the assembly. We’ll be celebrating college, university, and national awards at that event. In the meantime, I’m delighted to congratulate Professor Kim Skobba on becoming Meigs Professor; one of four awardees at the university this year, this distinguished honor reflects her visionary linkage of students with communities.

April is a month of events that wind up the academic year, and with it comes my one-year anniversary of living here in Athens (even though my job started July 1). Pictures of our Alumni Awards event are shared below. We were so pleased with the strong turnout and the networking that occurred there.

Year-end reporting and plans are coming in. Thank you for staying on top of these activities within your units! The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee, under the leadership of Dr. Melissa Landers-Potts, completed its first-year reporting with benchmarks and plans for the upcoming year identified. We would like students from each academic unit to be involved in the upcoming year. The FACS Executive Committee met about integrating the DEIB plan with the College’s Strategic Plan as we continued our conversation about the college’s vision and values.

Spring is also a time of staffing changes:

Haley Avery is leaving as FACS Director of Alumni Relations. She is assuming a similar role in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. FACS will be searching for a Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.

FACS welcomes Lindsey Floyd, Administrative Associate in NUTR.
