Dean’s Update 6/3/20
RESUMPTION OF RESEARCH IN UGA SPACE JUNE 15 OR LATER REQUIRES APPROVAL OF YOUR DEPARTMENT HEAD AND COMPLETION OF RRP
Following up on President Morehead’s Archnews announcement on Thursday, May 28, Phase 1 of a three-phased ramp up of research activities will commence Monday, June 15, 2020, pending approval by the USG.
The UGA phased plan for re-starting research includes a Research Resumption Plan (RRP) https://research.uga.edu/docs/units/research/Research-Resumption-Plan.pdf that must be completed in advance by each research faculty member/principal investigator. You can find the Research Resumption Requirements (RRRs) and RRP template on the Office of Research website. As specified in the RRRs and the RRP template, prior to commencing work each plan must be approved by the supervisor who has authority for space in which the faculty/PI operates; typically, this is his/her department head.
During Phase 1, faculty/PIs will have the discretion to prioritize their research activities but must meet the specified limits on density of personnel as described in the RRRs.
Phase 1: Occupancy in indoor onsite locations must be limited to one individual for spaces of less than 500 sq ft, and for larger spaces, to no more than one individual (including human subjects, if applicable) per 250 sq ft at any one time. Personnel working outside of office/laboratory space, including outdoors, or traveling to remote sites, must adhere to applicable social distancing requirements for those locations.
Phase 2: Phase 2, with additional personnel allowed onsite, is anticipated to begin in July.
Occupancy in indoor onsite locations must be limited to one individual for spaces of less than 400 sq ft, and for larger spaces, to no more than one individual (including human subjects, if applicable) per 200 sq ft at any one time. Personnel working outside of office/laboratory space, including outdoors, or traveling to remote sites, must adhere to applicable social distancing requirements for those locations.
Phase 3: The full restoration of onsite research in Phase 3, consistent with any social distancing requirements still in effect, is expected to coincide with the start of fall semester. All or most research personnel are anticipated to return to onsite work. Occupancy must meet applicable social distancing and other health directives announced by the State of Georgia, USG, or UGA.
To assist faculty and PI with addressing these questions regarding space Square Footage, the FACS department heads were provided a comprehensive list of building/room/sq footage spreadsheet by Joe Nageotte, facilities manager.
For Phases 1 and 2, and possibly Phase 3 depending on circumstances at the time, research activities that can be conducted remotely should still continue via telework.
Please stay tuned for additional information. Talk with your department head as you prepare your Resumption of Research Plan.

IFHE POSTONED TO SEPTEMBER 2022
As the pandemic is challenging our way of life, we are seeing that many conferences are being cancelled. For over 100 years, the International Federation of Home Economics (IFHE) World Congress has been a source of inspiration to home economists around the globe, but we care about your health and want to do our part to keep everyone safe. We have therefore decided to postpone the IFHE World Congress 2020 scheduled in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
The XXIV IFHE World Congress will be held September 4 - 10, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia USA at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. We already look forward to welcoming you there!
Postponing the Congress comes with many organizational decisions. Over the next month plans will be announced regarding accepted abstracts and refund options. These will be posted on the XXIV World Congress website
