August 23, 2021

Fall semester is back in full swing and I have to say it is exciting to see all the activity on campus. I want to thank each of you for the extra efforts you have gone through to make this happen. Please be sure you have reviewed the OVPI Getting Ready for Fall Classes update emailed August 13. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Undergraduate Research

FACS undergraduate students and their FACS faculty mentor are now eligible to apply for the FACS Fund for Excellence Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program ($2,000 per FACS student/faculty mentee award). Applications are due September 15, 2021. See details and application here: https://www.fcs.uga.edu/ssac/facs-fund-for-excellence

Mental Health/Wellness

If you are interested in joining me for a Zoom brainstorming session on ways we can improve FACS faculty/staff (and student) morale/mental health/wellness, please email Lynn Parham at facsdean@uga.edu. We will schedule a time that works best for those interested.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

UGA is a paying member of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity www.facultydiversity.org. The website and resources are available to all UGA faculty and graduate students. I encourage you to check it out. You can log in with your UGA email and set up an account.

Innovation Technology

Frequent back-ups make recovery of corrupted or lost files easier, or at least possible. Types of back-ups include: 1) cloud-based storage such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or Apple iCloud, 2) network storage on our local servers, and 3) desktop storage using an external hard drive or a separated part of the hard drive, often called a partition. Many of these are freely available to you as a member of the FACS community. If you want to learn more, send a message to helpdesk@fcs.uga.edu (from your registered email address) and they will be happy to assist you in developing a plan to preserve your data.

Sincerely,
