FACS hosts three DEI forums for community input
In September 2021, a 16 member FACS Diversity and Inclusive Excellence Planning Working Group was formed to help craft a new college-wide five-year strategic plan around diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging. The group consists of undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, staff, and faculty from every department, the Center on Human Development and Disability, and the Student Success and Advising Center.
Having these open forums provides opportunities for students, staff, faculty, and alumni to address diversity related issues. Conversations surrounding DEI are important because they allow for the enrichment of the educational experience and community in FACS.
“Having our entire FACS community participate is important to develop college-wide action-oriented efforts. Receiving feedback from our community is necessary to create a culture where diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging remain at the core of our work,” says Dr. Cara Simmons, the Director of the Student Success and Advising Center. “As a staff and faculty member, I hope my colleagues will participate in the forums or by completing the survey to make this a better place for us now and for future faculty and staff.”
Olivia Sawyer, a current FACS student and FACS Ambassador notes that attending the DEI Forum “is a great opportunity for any FACS student to express any issues or concerns that they may have about the college. The FACS working groups wants to help and will actively listen to students' concerns. Going to this forum will not only help current FACS students but also future ones too!"
FACS desires to improve upon the experience within the college. All forums are virtual with dates and times below. We want your perspective. Unavailable to attend? Share with your FACS network and stay tuned for a survey.
