Meigs Professor Emerita
Sharon Price, Professor Emerita, joined the Department of Child and Family Development (Human Development and Family Science) at UGA in 1973 and retired in 2000.
Prior to coming to UGA she was on the faculties at The University of Tulsa and Iowa State University. She received her BS at MacMurray College for Women, Jacksonville, IL and her MS and PhD degrees from Iowa State University. During her tenure as a faculty member at UGA she served as Graduate Coordinator and Department Head of CFD. She published in professional journals, edited texts, and was co-author or co-editor of seven books including Families and Change (4 editions, to date) which has been a top seller in family science.
Dr. Price served as President of the National Council on Family Relations. Two of her major accomplishments in this position included participating in the development of the Certified Family Life Educator program and the establishment of the Feminism and Family Studies section. She also served as major professor for more than 50 UGA graduate students, and received several awards for teaching including the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship at UGA and the Osborne Award from the National Council on Family Relations. She is a Fellow of the National Council on Family Relations.
