FACS Transfer Information

Welcome, prospective transfer students!  We're excited you're interested in FACS!  If you have any questions, please contact the FACS Transfer Advisor, Aimee Dowd, at success@uga.edu.

WHERE TO START

Students must transfer to UGA through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before they can officially become part of the FACS family.  You can find the most up-to-date information about the transfer admissions requirements at https://www.admissions.uga.edu/admissions/transfer/.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Apply early.  UGA application deadlines are very strict.  You can find the deadlines at https://www.admissions.uga.edu/admissions/deadlines.
  2. Submit your Transfer Student Application through Undergraduate Admissions and pay the application fee.  Please select "Family and Consumer Sciences" as the school/college in which you plan to enroll.
  3. Submit transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, including joint or dual enrollment programs, study abroad programs, or summer transient programs.  Transcripts should be sent directly to Undergraduate Admissions by the issuing institution.

For more information about the transfer application process, you may wish to attend a Virtual Transfer Information Session.  To register for an information session, please go to https://apply.uga.edu/portal/transfer.

TRANSFER CREDITS

All credit earned at institutions of higher education other than the University of Georgia is evaluated by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Only credit earned at regionally accredited institutions will be considered for transfer credit.

To see degree requirements for majors within the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, please refer to the UGA Bulletin.  In the sidebar under Program Category, click “Undergraduate Major.”  Then enter the name of the major in the search bar and hit “Search.”  Then click on the major.  To see the course requirements, click “Degree Requirements.”

Please consult the Transfer Equivalency Site for more information on how previous or current coursework transfers into UGA.

If you have questions about your transfer credits and would like to meet with the FACS Transfer Advisor, please either email success@uga.edu or register for a campus visit at https://www.fcs.uga.edu/about/visit-us-individual-and-on-campus-visits.

UGA TRANSFER ORIENTATION

Once accepted to UGA, transfer students must attend UGA New Student Orientation, where they will be advised and will register for classes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What classes should I take before transferring to UGA?

It depends on your major.  You can review major-specific information in the UGA Bulletin.  Once you click on a major in the Bulletin, look in the sidebar for “Transfer Student Information.”  If your major does not have a “Transfer Student Information” section, please click on “Degree Requirements” at the top of the page under the major’s name.  Then scroll down to “VI. Courses Related To the Major.”  Those classes are usually a good place to start.

We also recommend that prospective transfer students use the Transfer Planning Worksheet in conjunction with the Bulletin to answer this question.

Is there anything else I need to know about my major before deciding whether or not to transfer?

Dietetics

Students must complete the following entrance requirements for the Dietetics major.  Students may complete these requirements either before or after transferring to UGA.

  • Completion of Core Areas I-V
  • Completion of Area VI/F courses with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better
  • Completion of both CHEM 1211 & 1211L and BIOL 1107 & 1107L with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better

In order to become a registered dietician, a Master’s degree is required.  For more information about the requirements to become a Registered Dietician Nutritionist (or RDN), please see https://www.fcs.uga.edu/fdn/dietetics-become-a-registered-nutrition-professional

Nutritional Sciences

UGA’s Nutritional Sciences major prepares students for careers in the health sciences, including medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and physical therapy.  If you are interested in becoming a nutritionist or a dietician, we recommend majoring in Dietetics instead.

Furnishings & Interiors

The Furnishings & Interiors major is a studio-based program, and it takes three years to complete from the start of the first studio course, which is typically taken during fall semester of sophomore year.  Students take a total of seven studio classes, and the studios are typically only offered once a year, so three academic years are required to complete the program.

The first studio course is fall only, so if you plan to start at UGA in either the spring or summer, you can complete any remaining core or graduation requirements during your first semester here and then begin your major coursework in the fall.

Family and Consumer Sciences Education

Beginning in spring of junior year, the education classes required for this major are very strictly sequenced.  There are specific classes FACS Ed students must take in the spring and summer of junior year, as well as in the fall and spring of senior year.  Please note that FACS Ed students must take two classes in the summer of junior year in order to graduate on time.
