Name of Business / Place of Employment: Georgia Real Estate Commission
Current Job Title / Occupation: Compliance Investigator
My Story:
As a non-traditional student, I was nervous about how I would perform at such a prestigious university. I had already been in the real estate industry for 13 years but felt that I needed more education to increase my knowledge and marketability. FACS gave me the necessary tools and support to take my career to the next level. The education I received as a FACS Housing major increased my overall understanding of the housing industry. Today, I consider myself a housing professional, not just a real estate agent.

I'm back in Athens y'all! FACS hired me to be the new Alumni Director! YAY!
My Story:
Coming back to the University of Georgia after living working for the University of Texas at Austin has been the opportunity of a lifetime! Originally from Champaign, Illinois, I didn’t expect to come this far south but it has been proven to be the best decision of my life. UGA and FACS have provided me so many opportunities and memories to last a lifetime. Coming back here to be the Alumni Director for FACS has been very rewarding. I am thrilled to be able to walk the streets of Athens shouting GO DAWGS!

My Story:
I always wanted to attend UGA and major in FACS. I was lucky enough to do both and have so much fun while in Dawson Hall. FACS prepared me for my 30 year career in education by developing my leadership skills and by caring and knowledgeable faculty that gave me a sound foundation and showed me I could accomplish my goals. FACS made my teaching career possible, and I owe FACS everything! My favorite memories are the great people I met and the fun and valuable student organizations I was involved with. I never dreamed so much could happen during my college years.

My Story:
My fondest memory is my time spent as a student ambassador. I was able to connect with professors and staff members on a different level outside the classroom. They poured into me both on a personal and educational level. I know they cared about my success and I continue to keep in touch with them. I know those relationships are what lead me to apply for the Alumni Board. It is so important to me to connect current students with opportunities to make those relationships and get the most from their college experience. It was also a wonderful opportunity for me to connect with students outside my major who shared a passion for our college.

My Story:
The faculty, staff and students at FACS seem to have the same goal: helping and supporting each other. Honestly, it is a normal phenomenon that an international student feels intimidated in new surroundings. However, the friendly atmosphere at FACS helped me overcome feelings of intimidation in new surroundings. Faculty are very open-minded to communication with students. It drives me to try diverse research works in our field.

My Story:
My degree gave me a skill set that offered flexibility, opening multiple doors of opportunity. I taught first grade, special education, middle-school drama and communications. UGA prepared me for all of those. But most of all, I gained self-confidence. Three decades after college, I went into business. You need plenty of self-confidence and an organized plan when you sign your name on a bank note. As co-owner and co-developer of The Bottleworks on Prince, I got my first taste of historic preservation. Today, as owner of Historic Smithonia Farm, I find my FACS education irreplaceable.
