The Nutritional Sciences Program prepares you for careers in the health sciences, including medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and physical therapy.
By studying this integrative discipline, you fulfill pre-med requirements while learning how diet and specific nutrients influence human physiology and disease. This knowledge builds a solid foundation for careers in medicine or a related health science. You receive specialized instruction in the roles of nutrients in supporting functions of the body and all its parts, from the whole person to the organ systems and their constituent cells. The mission of the FACS Nutritional Sciences faculty is to develop students who will be competitive for admission to graduate degree programs in research, medicine and the allied health sciences.
In addition to FDNS courses, you will be required to take Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Anatomy & Physiology. You may select major electives that fulfill prerequisites for various professional programs such as Physics, Genetics, Psychology and Kinesiology. Students taking chemistry courses outside of University System of Georgia (USG) institutions must pass the American Chemistry Society (ACS) end of course examination in order for the course to fulfill the requirement within the department.
