Tree Nut Vascular Health Study

The Department of Foods and Nutrition at the University of Georgia Seeks

  • Men and Postmenopausal Women
  • Ages 50-75 years old
  • Must not take blood pressure, lipid-lowering, thyroid or anti-depressant medications or have diabetes
  • Must not eat tree nuts frequently
  • Compensation: up to $210

Requirements

4.5-week commitment and a total of 3 testing visits (all include blood draws)

There will be 3 testing visits

  • Informed Consent/Screening Visit: Body measurements, questionnaires, and a blood draw. (1 hour)
  • Baseline and Post-Diet Intervention Visits: Body measurements, blood draw, vascular and cognitive measurements, and appetite assessments before and after a meal challenge. Additionally, a meal will be provided at the end of each visit. (5.5 hours each)

4 Week Intervention Diets

May require daily consumption of pecans for 4 weeks

Sequence of visits and activities

diet intervention weeks1-4: informed consent and screening visit > baseline visit (week0) > post-diet visit (week4)
