Dean’s Update 1/10/22
Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope everyone had a chance to recuperate and feels ready to take on spring semester. It looks like we are going to have a challenging first month, but I am hoping for a quick reduction in the Omicron surge so we can get back to more normal operations.
Please closely review the January 4, 2022 Archnews email for details about returning for spring semester and updated CDC guidelines related to isolation/quarantine. Vaccines, boosters, masking, and testing are strongly encouraged. Do not come to campus if you are ill.
I found this article (The Wisdom of Omicron Madness by Jay Michaelson) comforting to read over the holidays. We’re all struggling, but we’re all resilient.
College Assembly
Dean Anisa Zvonkovic will be visiting UGA campus February 1-3. We will schedule a College Assembly where she will give brief remarks followed by a Q&A at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 1 OR Wednesday, February 2 (depending on Georgia Center availability), with a reception following. I hope you will all plan to attend to welcome her to UGA. I will send out confirmation of the time/location as soon as we know.
Inclusive Teaching Workshop
Ruth Poproski, associate director for the UGA Center for Teaching and Learning, will facilitate a virtual workshop on policies for inclusive teaching on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 1:45 p.m. Register for this just-in-time Zoom workshop here. How you craft and communicate course policies (and even what policies you choose to establish) can significantly impact the ability of your students to learn and succeed. The key is to examine and adjust your policies and approaches through a lens of appreciation for the diverse needs, backgrounds, and experiences of your students.
