FACING RACISM TOGETHER Virtual Workshop Series

The College of Family and Consumer Sciences Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is pleased to announce the FACING RACISM TOGETHER Virtual Workshop Series beginning March 16.  Register now to secure your participation in this important series!

With protests, demonstrations, and civil unrest over racial injustices reaching all corners of our nation and dominating the news cycle, FACS faculty and staff are feeling the same emotions as other members of the public -- from concern and solidarity, to confusion and anger, from isolation and powerlessness, to excitement and optimism.  They seek a better understanding of the issues underlying these outcries, and they want reliable information, a space to ask questions, and yearn to connect and to feel empowered to help change their communities, country, and world for the better. However, knowing where to start and how to proceed when trying to process and address something as pervasive and divisive as racism can leave individuals feeling overwhelmed.

The workshop series facilitators are Joan Koonce, Professor and Extension Financial Planning Specialist, and Jason Estep, Extension 4-H Specialist.  Dr. Koonce and Mr. Estep are members of the Coming Together for Racial Understanding Georgia Extension Pilot Cohort and have had extensive facilitation training from the Southern Rural Development Center to lead the workshops.

Workshop Dates:

March 16, 2021               12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

March 18, 2021               12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

March 23, 2021               12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

At least 10 people must register for the workshop series.  You must be able to attend all six sessions.  The workshop limit is 30.  A flyer is attached with detailed information.
