Building Emergency Action Plan (BEAP)

1. Overview

This Building Emergency Action Plan (BEAP) prepares occupants for emergency situations. It is developed by the Building Safety Team (BST) and reviewed by the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP).

4. Fire Emergency

Evacuation Locations

  • East Exit: Across Cedar Street
  • West Exit: Across D.W. Brooks Drive
  • North Exit: Conner Hall parking lot
  • Alternate: Myers Quad

Procedures

  • Evacuate immediately
  • Call 911
  • Do not use elevators
  • Assist others if needed
  • Do not re-enter until cleared

5. Medical Emergencies

  • Call 911 immediately
  • Provide location and details
  • Do not move injured person unless necessary
  • Provide first aid if trained

6. Tornado Procedures

Shelter Areas

  • Basement rooms and stairwells
  • Windowless interior rooms

During Warning

  • Move to lowest level
  • Avoid windows
  • Protect head and neck
  • Wait for all-clear

7. Hazardous Materials Spill

  • Evacuate area
  • Call 911
  • Avoid contact
  • Follow responder instructions

8. Suspicious Person

  • Call 911
  • Provide description
  • Keep distance
  • Lock doors if necessary

9. Utility Failures

  • Power outage
  • Gas leak
  • Water/sewer issues

Response

  • Report immediately
  • Evacuate if necessary
  • Avoid electrical equipment during gas leaks

10. Active Shooter

  • Call 911
  • Run if safe
  • Hide and lock doors if escape not possible
  • Fight only as last resort

11. Additional Emergencies

  • Bomb threats
  • Suspicious packages
  • Earthquakes (Drop, Cover, Hold)
  • Civil unrest
  • Winter storms
