Why I chose my major

My undergraduate degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education opened many doors in the first few years of my career. I enjoyed my time as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher but found my passion in nutrition education and wanted to dive deeper into that subject. As a FACS Extension Agent, I have the unique opportunity to work with and educate people in my community on a daily basis in the areas of food safety, food preservation and general nutrition. Community nutrition has been the perfect major to help me grown my skills as a nutrition educator and learn more about serving unique populations in my community.

What I like most about FACS

I’ve loved FACS from day one. It is truly a family environment and a place you can call home. As an undergraduate student, I had the opportunity to serve as a FACS Ambassador and tell so many prospective students about the wonderful experiences awaiting them. There is such a unique atmosphere in this college and the professors feel more like family, always wanting to offer help and advice when you need it most. During my master’s program, I started a new job, moved and had two children within those two years. My professors were always there to offer words of encouragement and pushed me to help me see my own potential. I am forever indebted to this college for the many wonderful opportunities and relationships it has afforded me on my journey!

Post-graduation plans

I plan to continue my career as a FACS Extension Agent in Gainesville. One day, I would like to pursue a career as a School Nutrition Director and continue educating people about healthier living.
