Why I chose my major

Starting college, I planned to study Dietetics and pursue a career in the medical field. I quickly realized that I craved an outlet for my creative energy and that I needed to change my major and career plans to provide this as well. I scheduled a meeting with the lovely humans at the UGA Career Center, where they encouraged me to change my major to something I was incredibly passionate about, and I’m forever thankful that they did.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved fashion as a vehicle for creative expression. Prior to my visit to the Career Center, I hadn’t realized that something I was so passionate about could also be a logical course of study. Since I changed my major to Fashion Merchandising my freshman year, I haven’t looked back, and I’m grateful to have grown so much in my knowledge of the fashion industry from the phenomenal professors in the department.

During my sophomore year, I knew I wanted to also pursue my passion for communications. Adding another major in Consumer Journalism was a perfect way for me to do so and has allowed me to essentially design my own major, taking classes in public relations, journalism, graphic design, and more!

What I like most about FACS

Something about that big, yellow building and the friendly faces inside have made Dawson Hall feel like home to me ever since I registered for classes at freshman orientation. FACS has shaped my college experience in an immensely positive way, and I truly owe it all to the people here!

I would characterize the faculty, professors, and students in FACS as equally encouraging and challenging; they’re always there to lift you up, yet also to push you to achieve your best. FACS has taught me that at the end of the day, people truly matter the most of everything. I will continue to cherish the incredible memories, skills, and experiences that this department has blessed me with as I become a proud alumna!

Post-graduation plans

I plan to combine my passions for fashion and communications in the role that I pursue following graduation. Ultimately, I have plans to start my own company and use all of the skills that UGA has so graciously given me!
