SWEANEY INNOVATION FUND FOR 2020

Please join me in congratulating two groups on being named the Sweaney Innovation Fund awardees for 2020 and receiving for $4,500 each project.

Chalandra Bryant, HDFS, will be funded to develop her project, “Connecting students with course materials through exposure to experts around the country and through Virtual Reality Experiences.” She will use the funds to support the purchase of VR equipment, establish honorariums, and other budgeted items.

A team from HDFS – Jennifer George, Jennifer Gonyea, Melissa Kozak, and Melissa Landers-Potts – will be funds for their project, developing “The HDFS Writing Center.”

The Sweaney Innovation Fund /faculty_staff_resources/sweaney-innovation-fund will provide funds to support faculty and students current projects and programs, as well as new programs that are created to meet emerging needs. Upon her retirement in December 2012, an endowment was established to honor Anne L. Sweaney’s more than 30 years of service to the college and UGA.

EXTENSION EXPERIENCE INTERNSHIP FUNDS – DEADLINE FEBRUARY 1

Currently enrolled undergraduates and graduates students at UGA, Fort Valley State, Georgia Southern University, and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College are encouraged to inter with Cooperative Extension services. The Student Extension Internships/Experience Fund /docs/The_Don_Bower_Extension_Experience_Fund.pdf named in honor of Don Bower, HDFS professor and extension specialist emeritus, accepts applications by the midnight, Sat. FACS LEGISLATIVE AIDES – GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY

I’m pleased to announce three FACS students were selected for the Legislative Aide Internship Program and begin their experience in the Georgia General Assembly this week with internship orientation. A program that has a 37 year history in the college, these interns will also help host the FACS Day at the Capitol on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020. Registration ends this week! PERSONNEL – NEW STAFF

We are delighted to announce that Jennifer MacDonald joined the FACS Business & Finance Office (BFO) on January 3, 2020 as the College’s Post-Award Grant Lead. Jennifer (Jennifer.macdonald@uga.edu) has a Master of Accountancy degree from the University of Georgia and has served several years as a Grants Accounting Specialist with the Sponsored Project Post-Award unit of UGA’s Sponsored Projects Administration. Jennifer MacDonald’s office is located in the Business & Finance Office suite, Room 210D. Please help in welcoming her into the College.
