Hourly rate pay bands for student assistant positions with the College of Family and Consumer Sciences are listed below including explanation of work and typical working titles. Wages beyond $16.00 per hour require strong justification and must be pre-approved by the Office of Finance and Human Resources (OFHR) before an offer is extended to the student. Entry Level: $11.75 to $13.25 per hour
Work assignments are completed under close supervision; procedures are well established; employees typically follow well-defined policies and procedures; minimal training or prior knowledge of work is required. Sample positions titles include:
- Administrative Assistant/Support
- Office/Clerical Assistant
- Help Desk/Computer Lab Assistant
- Lab Helper/Assistant
- Student Worker/Assistant
- Substitute Teacher
Intermediate Level: $13.25 - $14.75 per hour
Work assignments require special knowledge, skills, or abilities; some independent judgment or initiative; a considerable knowledge of the work process as obtained through on-the-job experience or formal training; and/or may require a significant amount of physical exertion, adverse hours, or working conditions. Sample position titles include:
- Office/Clerical/Administrative Assistant
- Graphic Design Assistant
- Communication/Social media/Marketing Student Assistant
- Event Assistant
- Help Desk/Computer Lab Assistant
- Research and Outreach Assistant
- Facilities Assistant (heavy labor)
Highly Specialized Level: $14.75 – *$16.00 per hour
Work assignments require advanced, highly specialized knowledge, skills, or abilities; independent decision making and problem-solving skills; extensive training or specialized professional training; demonstrated ability to perform the duties involved; and may include supervisory and administrative responsibilities for large or complex activities. Sample position titles include:
- Lab Assistant/Technician
- Research Assistant/Technician
- Tutor
- Web Designer/Developer Assistant
- Instruction Assistant to teaching faculty
*NOTE: Federal Work Study positions cannot exceed $16.00 per hour.
